Glowworm Swarm Optimization

Experimental results

The patch based environment provides good flexibility in testing the proposed algorithms, as the parameters such as odor source strength, wind direction can be varied easily. We had also generated environments with multiple odor sources, moving odor source, 3 dimensional odor flow using the patch based model. However, the use of a simulated odor source environment raises concerns on the performance of the proposed approaches on an experimental setting. In order to address such concerns, the modified GSO algorithm has been tested on data obtained from a dye mixing experiment. The concentration values from the experiment are used by the GSO algorithm in order to locate the source. Next, a set of gas sensors are used to locate an ethanol source. The GSO algorithm is used to determine the path of the gas sensors. The path is calculated by the GSO algorithm from the output of the gas sensors. This demonstrates the capability of the modified GSO algorithm in locating odor sources in a real world setting.
